If watercolor feels harder than it looks

Maybe your lines come out a little wobbly. Maybe you have the supplies but freeze when you sit down, unsure what to actually do. Or maybe you only paint when you have a whole free afternoon — which means you almost never paint at all.

I've been all three of those.

Here's the good news: you can start with one small, useful thing — and feel the difference sooner than you'd think.

What the free Quickstart gives you

  • One foundational brushstroke — the Thin Stroke, the versatile line that shows up in almost every watercolor painting.
  • One basic drill you can do in about ten minutes.
  • Three short, guided sessions that fit a real schedule.
  • A simple way to start noticing how your grip, pressure, and paint change your stroke.

That's it. No overwhelm, no confusion, no rigid rules.

Why start with just one stroke?

Because small is what makes it stick. At Mary Moreno Studio, I believe watercolor should fit real life — short, useful sessions you can make room for, even on a full day. Ten focused minutes with one stroke will do more for your brush control than an occasional "someday" painting afternoon.

And here's the part I most want you to know: practice is painting. Every line you make counts.

Hi, I'm Mary

I'm a self-taught watercolor artist — and not long ago, I'd have told you I was a "non-artist." I started painting in 2020 with YouTube tutorials and library books, and for a long while my strokes felt shaky and unpredictable.

What changed things wasn't talent or expensive supplies. It was practicing brushstrokes — one at a time, a few minutes at a time. Within a couple of weeks, my lines were steadier and my strokes finally felt like mine.

I made this Quickstart for the beginner I used to be. It's the simple starting point I wish someone had handed me. So if you've ever thought you're "not artistic enough" — that's exactly who I made this for.

Is the Quickstart for you?
